There is a door, and on the other side of it something is wrong. I have a few seconds before the decision gets made for me, and in those seconds I am barely thinking about what is behind the door — I am checking for open flame, I am checking there is a way in and a way back out, and I am looking at whoever is still upright in that room.
Six red lights, one gate, and no green light anywhere on the page
Not a protocol — nothing about what to do once you are inside a room
The half nobody teaches — a room multiplies in your favour too
Six pages. Print it and carry it — it is a field card, not a file

SIX RED LIGHTS / ONE GATE
Is there open flame, smoke, or anything that will become one while I am in there?
Is there a way in — and a way back out that does not depend on nothing changing?
Is there anything on the floor, on the furniture, or in a pocket that will cut me or stick me while my hands are busy?
Am I looking at blood, and am I equipped for what that means for me?
Does anything in this room — a fall, a height, a position, a vehicle — say neck or spine to me?
Who else is in here, and what are they going to do while my hands are busy? A crowd is never just a crowd — which one is the resource, and which one is the problem?
The rooms with no casualty in them — the conversation, the confrontation, the contract
Anyone who responds — paid, volunteer, or because it happened in front of you
People who will write their own sixth, seventh, eighth light
A protocol, a procedure, or anything about what to do once you are inside
Permission to enter — six clear lights is the absence of red ones, not a green one
A gate that only ever says yes is not a gate. It is an excuse with good posture.

One email, and the card lands in your inbox. Then, now and again, a note from me on the work — the rooms, the questions, and the part the training does not cover.
